LITTORAL– The new summer game created by Bryan Burgoyne and published by Randolph.
One has to go back to2014to understand the genesis ofLittoral. At that time, the idea was to design a game with circular components.
It was after trying several prototypes over the years thatBryan Burgoyne, the game's author, had the idea that led toLittoral.
During a walk in 2021 in theÎles-de-la-Madeleine, an archipelago in Quebec in the Atlantic, he felt like playing a game, but as often happens there, the weather conditions were not favorable. And it was at this precise moment that the flash of genius struck him: the circles should be poker chips in a bag.
Bryan then tested his idea on an online game simulator with a group of people who helped him refine the visual design of the chips.
Bryan participated in the first edition ofProtoFestin Saint-Julie, Quebec, to gather feedback from players. It was during this event that the Randolph teams discovered the game, then named "Bout du Banc."
After only 2 games played,Joël Gagnon, our Studio Head, andCatherine Parent, our Project Manager, fell in love with the game, and Bryan agreed to let the Randolph studio take the only copy of the prototype, even though the game rules were not yet written.
1 month later, a collaboration was born, to launch what would become a major tidal wave in the board game industry.
Following this, the Randolph teams worked on new visuals, under the artistic talent ofFanny Saulnier, the illustrator.
In parallel, Bryan realized that he would likely encounter playability issues and decided to create a program, using artificial intelligence, allowing him to try all possible combinations and ensure that all strategy mechanics were equivalent.
It was when the game's DNA was fixed that the name "Littoral" came to Joël's mind, as he explains: "I felt that it conveyed all the poetic spirit that this game wants to show us."
